Illustraor Of The Year
This is the most prestigious award to evaluate the work that professional illustrators have done in a year.
We call for the candidate works. (Until January 31st)

Explanation of each prize
The awards and contents are as follows.

We will classify the works into the following four categories and conduct judging.

Precautions concerning prizes and benefits
All JIA Illustration Award 2022 award-winning works and past top-winning works are listed.
Full color 222 pages, W180mm, H260mm, thickness 20mm, weight 780g

You can choose one type of product from the JIA shop and commercialize your own illustration.
The Excellent Illustrator Award is limited to products with a selling price of 3,000 yen (tax included) or less.
One of the products will be given to the winner.
The right to sell at the JIA shop is limited to JIA members.
Application requirements
Please read the following items carefully, and apply after confirming that there are no mistakes.
Qualification requirements
Only professional illustrators can make entries.
Nationality does not matter, those who work overseas can also apply.
We do not ask members or non-members of the Japan Illustrator Association.
Submission works
Entry works have to be the ones which have delivered between January 1 and December 31 in 2023.
Please make the work data to JPEG file with RGB mode, resolution 72 dpi.
The size of the work should be 700 pixels wide and 1,400 pixels height.
JIA members use member number_serial number as file name.
(Ex. 201231_1.jpg, 201231_2.jpg, 201231_3.jpg)
Non JIA members make it first name_last name_serial number.
(Ex. Andy_Warhol_1.jpg, Andy_Warhol_2.jpg)
If you have the printed matter, it becomes the material for judgment.
Please layout the data of the works and the printed matter into one file.
It will be one submission work with one job.
One job should be ordered bt the same client, of the same medium, and in the same period of delivery, or continued to be producted within three months.
In the following cases, please pick up some of them and lay them out freely in one file.
- In case you drew multiple illustrations with one job.
- In case the same illustration was used on multiple media such as poster, magazine advertisement, leaflet, and etc.
- In case you continued drawing of the cover of a magazine etc.
- In case you drew a lot of illustrations for one book
- In case you drew illustrations of the calendar for 12 months
- In case you drew a lot of illustration for one game
If the your illustration was used on multiple media, you can apply for multiple categories.
Please make the layout file within 1MB, attach it to the application form and send it.
In case you submit multiple works, please send them from different application forms each.
How to apply
Please fill out the required information below into application form and attach your work and send it.
If you can not send your works by the application form, please email to 
attached your works, and fill in the following necessary information in your email.
- Real name
- Illustrator name (if you have one besides real name)
- Entry categories
- Client name
- The name of media using the illustration
- Delivery date of the illustration
- Comment on the work
- Address (please write exactly so that mail items arrive)
- Phone number
- Email address
Number of works
There is no limit to the number of works.
Entry fee for each category is required in case you apply for one work in multiple categories.

You can pay the entry fee via PayPal.
(For a member of Japan Illustrators' Assiciation)
4,000 yen for the first work, 3000 yen for the second work, 2000 yen from the third work
(For a non member)
5,000 yen for the first work, 4,000 yen for the second work, 3,000 yen from the third work
Competition review
It is decided by the vote of the director of the Japan Illustrators' Association.
"Illustrator of the year" is given to the illustrator who did the best job in a year beyond category.
The judges select 5 works in each category and put 5pt, 4pt, 3pt, 2pt, and 1pt in order from the top.
And they add 6pt to the work that they think is appropriate for "Illustrator of the Year" in 5pt winning works of each category.
And then they add 5pts, 4pts, 3pts, 2pts, 1pts, to the top five works in remained works excluding the work which added 6 pts to the 5 work selected by each category.
Aggregate all points and certify "Illustrator of the year" illustrator with the most points earned.
Besides "Illustrator of the Year" winner, we will certify the highest point winning work in each division for each department award.
