These illustrations capture Chiang's profound philosophy and unique perspectives. In each illustration, I depict key themes: the struggle between faith and doubt, the potential and isolation of enhanced intelligence, the cyclical nature of time, humanity's pursuit of the infinite, and the intertwining of language and destiny. |
審査員評I really love how Kiuyan uses both straight and curved lines in their compositions. The colors are incredibly impactful. The dynamic interplay between straight and curved lines creates a sense of movement and energy that draws the viewer in. Kiuyan’s bold use of color enhances this effect, adding vibrancy and intensity to the artwork. Each piece is a visual feast, demonstrating Kiuyan’s keen eye for design and masterful control of form and color. This unique combination of line work and striking colors makes Kiuyan’s work leaves a lasting impression. Van Li The illustrations of Ted Chiang's story are exceptionally beautiful, with each character visually intertwined with themes of truth, religion, and the universe. The overall composition evokes a profound sense of the vastness and complexity of the human experience. Haimeng Cao As a huge fan of Ted Chiang's science fiction, I find Kiuyan's series of illustrations to be a remarkable depiction of his work. The vivid colors lend a philosophical depth to each piece. Kiuyan's technical skill is also incredible; the use of textures and composition draws the viewer in and makes each illustration intriguing to examine. Rita Yuwei Li The impact of geometry is strong here, that makes his compositions sophisticated, and while he combines scenarios and surrealism, everything is harmonized and each symbol finds its voice. The textures, as well as the meteorites and rays, enhance the congruence of his style, playing with diagonals and luminous characters, and shadowy curves. Each piece works in itself, they could easily be covers or posters. The philosophical conflicts are noted because each work invites to think in new questions. There is something of a European comic style, mixed with something of Satoshi Kon's style, very interesting, and it works well for philosophy. What I missed in certain works, is the quality of the shadows with which he/she/x made the character that looks like an angel in the work "Hell", and for example, in the work "Understand" the shadows were not worked like that and the profiles of the skulls and faces were very flat, the same happens in the hands of "The Merchant" and the tower in "Babylon Tower". If he/she/x had continued the shadow quality of "hell", it would have enriched the aesthetic impact of each work, and also, it would have benefited the congruence of style in all of them, to enhance them as a collection. There was a decrease in detail, and Kiuyan has more than enough talent to achieve and continue that quality. Lucas León This series of works is full of intricate details and beautifully rendered textures. The dynamics of the characters are well done, with precise and accurate depictions. One can see in the artwork the artist's contemplation of philosophical issues, making it a highly impressive set of works. PINGNAN LU |
