Artist's comments

These illustrations are from my picture book "Rules of Square", illustrating a masked kid called Work Harder who complies with all the rules, until a school bag dog, Packy, ate his life dictionary, an unprecedented thought crossed his mind: leaving the world of norms. They finally found their Utopia through a midnight toy train. This book is a tribute to those who remain true to themselves.

What a great story! The artist executed it so well through the paintings. The scenes before the kid escapes evoke such heavy and pressing feelings, conveying a sense of tension. In contrast, the paintings after the escape are filled with adventure, capturing a sense of freedom and excitement. The artist does an excellent job of conveying emotions through the artwork, making the narrative come alive in a powerful and engaging way.

The illustrations stand out with their unique style and evokes a peaceful feeling despite portraying a post-apocalyptic world. The painterly strokes and muted color palette combined with soft rounded shapes and stylized characters contribute to the distinctive look.

"Rules of Square" illustrations are imaginative and thought provoking. The characters, Work Harder and Packy, are well designed, and their quest for freedom are wonderfully illustrated. I really appreciate that this picture book is encouraging viewers to embrace their true selves.

The apocalyptic atmosphere created by the dog eating the dictionary of the main character, is beautiful. Words and reality sink and the sky vibrates with heat and transformation. The aesthetics work quite well, the palette generates a gloomy atmosphere and fiery tones, as if the character with his mask was witnessing the explosion of Chernobyl, and in the end he comes out of there, and he finds a palette of pastel colors, sweeter, with nature, and he looks life with some relief from the train. In the last work, the character is no longer seen lost or running, and he is contemplating in a more geometric and balanced composition than the previous pieces, everything seems to be in order. Very good work, and great concept for the story, is always a very necessary and powerful message (be true to oneself).

This set of illustrations features a profound and intriguing story background. The artist is also skilled in designing imaginative characters and has good control over scenes.
