Artist comments

This work tells the harm of obedience education suffered by Chinese children from the 1980s to the 1990s.
Parents during this period were still influenced by traditional Chinese Confucianism, emphasizing "patriarchy" and "obedience".
The most typical features are emphasizing academic performance, demanding absolute obedience, and responding to children's mistakes with beatings and scolding.
The father is like an emperor——majestic and forbidden to disobey.

 審査員評

The textures and bright colors are great, the technique is wonderful.
Well balanced compositions. You succeeded to create a special visual language which tells stories without any words.

It exhibits excellent narrative qualities, distinctive colors, and strong modeling skills.

Xinyue Zhu's work is highly poetic and visually wise, her metaphor on the impact of certain ideologies over women's lives is very clear and direct.
These works have a really beautiful graphic quality, there are no unnecessary elements in the composition and each of the elements used in her works help to tell the concept in a very precise way. Great work!
The art process gives the artist the chance to overcome the constraints of his preferred medium but also gives the chance to play around with his very own and beautiful human constraints.
AI deprived us from this. Stay strong.

The unique shapes and colors throughout the paintings show the skillfulness of the artist.
In particular, the overlap of colors and objects like printmaking is really beautiful.

It is a difficult subject, the damage caused by obedience education, but the illustration itself does not give a dark impression, and it is impressive that it is expressed in beautiful colors from a unique perspective.
The expression that makes the most of the reticules in the printing is interesting.
