Artist's comments

Apotheosis is a series of posters about modern fetishism on communication equipment. They depict the "divine power" of communication devices. Drawing inspiration from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas," it derives divine and mystical characters and narratives through a creative process rooted in the functionalities and evolutionary changes of modern communication devices.

 審査員評

If I did not know that these artworks were made recently, I would think that I was holding a catalog of vintage science fiction magazine covers. Surreal, unusual, but interesting and so masterfully done! Wenjing Yang touched on a very interesting topic. Means of communication as objects of worship of modern man. Indeed, a peculiar new cult has formed in recent years. Unknowingly, most of the people inhabiting the Earth turned out to be his followers. Who can do without a mobile phone now? And without a computer, too? We attach great importance to the means of communication, and we depend on them. Maybe it's time to think about it.

I strongly believe that a good illustration doesn't have to be outstanding in every aspect, but this series, Apotheosis, really nailed it. Even the form language sells the strong aesthetic of a great harmony between complexity and order. The use of color palette and great compositions push the mystical theme to another level.

This series of works incorporates various technological elements. The main subjects are rendered in bright, vivid colors, while selectively placed black-and-white areas help emphasize the theme more clearly.

Wenjing Yang’s work takes an ambitious and risky approach by rejecting figuration entirely in favor of abstraction. This decision requires precision and clarity, which the artist achieves through rhythmic composition, spatial contrast, and a carefully calibrated neon palette. The visual language echoes elements of digital culture without relying on direct reference, allowing the concept of self-deification to surface gradually. The result is a controlled and visually assertive series that invites interpretation without prescribing it.

The artist's neon-fluorescent colour scheme, combined with electromagnetic fluid-like dynamic texture, achieves a high degree of unity between visual expression and ideological core. The subtlety of the composition is unforgettable. Through the bstract visual language, the artist explores the concept of fetishism in modern society. I think this group of works is not only an aesthetic artifact and a conceptual carrier, but also an interactive field that can trigger the viewer's spiritual resonance - the gradient hues and flowing curves with a sense of granularity seem to be having a silent dialogue with everyone who stares at them.
