Judges' commentsThe series of illustrations by KS represents a journey from storm to serenity. From thunder and flashing lightning to a rainbow against a blue sky. From struggle to peace. If you slow down for a minute and sit in silence, flipping through the artworks in order, like a slide show, a deep philosophical subtext will be revealed to you. At first, the viewer is distracted by the dynamics of the plots, the richness of the compositions, and the diversity of shades. And only then does he notice all the symbolism of what is happening. Ekaterina Borodacheva Charming and smart, just tighten shape clarity. First three pieces are too busy—could use a clearer form structure and better element placement to guide the eye. Max Liu This piece evokes an imaginative response to a storm. While storms may seem dangerous to humans, for the "fish," they become a beautiful journey. In image 3, the movement and expressions of the fish are especially vivid and full of energy. The overall color palette is bright and cheerful, showcasing the artist’s rich imagination and expressive skills. Moon Q Kam Ian Sio’s work bursts with playful energy and visual rhythm. Through simplified forms, grainy textures, and bright contrasts, the artist creates a whimsical world where storytelling flows from one panel to the next like a continuous wave. The balance between abstract weather patterns and humorous character reactions gives the narrative an animated feel, blending tension with optimism. Despite the naïve style, the work shows precise control of composition and timing, offering a clever and uplifting visual sequence. Nadiia Zhelieznova The artist captures the fleeting transformations of nature through the innocent eyes of a child, composing a dynamic symphony of an approaching storm on the canvas: swaying streetlights, disheveled hair of pedestrians, plastic bags whirling in the wind, and fish-like raindrops spiraling through lightning and dark clouds—all coalescing into an intense sense of ambience. KS masterfully employs the artistic language of synaesthesia, vividly engaging the audience's visual, auditory, and tactile senses. This extraordinary immersive experience leaves a profound impression on me. Yimin Wang |
