Judges' comments

In his works, Qi He touched upon a very interesting and underestimated topic. The topic of fatherly love. I can recall quite a few works of art that tell about motherhood. But what about the father? It is unfair to forget about his role in the life of a person. After all, it is very important. The artist presents fatherly love in the form of a giant hand that maintains and protects, opens the path, and serves as a constant support for its child.

Qi He’s work shows strong visual balance and a quiet sense of serenity. The compositions are graphic and confident, with rich color and controlled lighting that enhance the symbolic nature of each piece. Solid work.

The handling of light and shadow is exceptionally skillful, especially the depiction of backlighting—which is not easy to achieve. Moreover, the depiction of the hand in the shadow subtly guides the viewer’s gaze toward the figure (the child) in the light. This effectively conveys the theme of "invisible paternal love" with both emotional depth and visual clarity.

Qi He’s series demonstrates precise control of digital minimalism, combining hard-edged vector shapes with smooth gradients and symbolic composition. The “Father’s Day” sequence uses surreal scale and theatrical lighting to depict a story of care, connection, and cosmic imagination. Each visual element is reduced to its essence, but the staging remains expressive and layered. The final image introduces abstraction rooted in cultural reference, creating a clean yet meaningful closure. It’s a smart and confident use of reduction, with emotional depth embedded in form.

In the painting, the "giant hand" serves as a tangible representation of paternal love, subtly concealed within the expansive dark-toned background. Yet, it conveys a profound sense of steadfast support—a reassurance capable of dispelling potential dangers. It is precisely because of this unwavering, formidable presence behind us that we are able to maintain our curiosity for the unknown and the courage to press forward, venturing toward the radiant future that lies ahead.
